Qiandao Lake Bridge
The Qiandao Lake Bridge is a lake-crossing passage located within Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, China, spanning Qiandao Lake. It is a key project in Chun’an County’s road network development plan, which aims to create an “inner ring” and “outer gateways.” The Qiandao Lake Bridge was completed in September 2002. Construction commenced on the 28th; In August 2005 On the 16th, the main bridge was closed, completing the closure and achieving full line connectivity. In September 2005 It opened to traffic on the 20th.
The Qiandao Lake Bridge spans from Yangguang Road in the west, crossing over the Qiandao Lake waterway, to Jixian Road in the east. The total length of the route is 1,258 meters, with a main bridge measuring 928 meters and a vertical clearance of 14.5 meters; each side features a 1.5-meter-wide pedestrian walkway. The main bridge piers are founded on piles with depths ranging from 53 to 64 meters, representing the greatest water depth and pile length among deep-water bored piles for bridges in China.
During its construction, the Qiandao Lake Bridge set three domestic records: the main bridge’s superstructure adopted a 915‑m span. The V-shaped piers of the Mi‑Yi Bridge’s prestressed continuous steel‑concrete structure constitute the longest continuous span in China. The substructure of the main bridge employs a high‑pile cap system with flexible steel‑pipe piles and concrete‑filled rock‑anchored piles, a first in the country. The concrete‑filled steel pipe piles were constructed using a “planting‑pile technique,” a novel method applied for the first time domestically.
